The Witch and the Reluctant Ghost

The witch (or warlock, to use the more gender-appropriate term, I guess) costume is from 2003 or 2004. Gilligan put up with my hijinks for a moment or two and then with a quick shake of the head, the hat was dispatched.

Oh, poor ghost. This was just days ago. He let me put his ears through the ear slots, but then he sat very still with his eyes closed. He was in his happy place, I suppose. The costume was then removed. He tends to stand a lot, so I had thought that he would make a good ghost. I was wrong, and Shiner, I promise not to do it again.

I cannot claim responsibility for this jolly fellow, but he sure makes me laugh.

Just in Time for Hallow'een!

A little cleaning, decorating and baking went on this weekend in the house. A Zip car helped with the usual trip to the farmer's market and we came home with these gourds and a giant pumpkin for our carving pleasure. The object at the right is a miniature fence post (made of limestone from my Grandmother's childhood home) that we got as a wedding gift, but I like that it looks all tombstone-y in this photo.

And then came the baking! I'm not sure of the variety, but I have fallen in love with a squash. It's a little pumpkin-ish, but a little pointier on top. And the color? The most beautiful orange-red color. Unbelievably autumn. And what else? It is delicious!

So out came the pumpkin spice cake recipe from the Halloween mail order and my inner Martha was released. I used the above-mentioned squash mixed with butternut squash (again, yum) and added some crystallized ginger.

RRaaaaaaaaaaAAaAAAAaaaaAAAWwwwwWWRRRRRR!!!!

Beware!
They went to work with me to keep us from eating the entire batch. Yum!

Spooky, no?

Zombie Rabbit with Carrot

Stayed up late to finish...was it worth it?
He is made from a repurposed smiley face pillow.
And he wants your (plush) veggie's brains!

My Good Fortune Part 2

This time it was mostly sauce tomatoes...and sadly our enthusiasm has waned a bit. More sauce, some salsa, a few in reserve for gifts...too...many...tomatoes.

He's very furry. And friendly, too.

My Good Fortune

Small Factory and I visit the Grand Army Plaza farmer's market on a very regular basis.

Nearly three weeks ago, I bought raffle tickets from one stand--Bradley Farms--and two weeks ago I learned that I had won the raffle.

What did I win?
Why, my weight in tomatoes! This is merely the first installment.

Sauce has been made, eaten and frozen. Tomatoes have been roasted. Tomatoes have been broiled with scallions and blue cheese. A few tomato omelettes and tomato/cheese sandwiches have been consumed. A tomato/pepper/zucchini/cheese tart was baked. A few have been given away and surely more will become juicy gifts. There are a few left.

Tomatoes and peaches are two things that I find really only taste good when they are in season. Otherwise they tend to disappoint.

We are going back on Saturday for more.
Yum.

He'd Better Eat, Drink, and be Merry...

...because soon this guy will be put to work.
There's cooking, washing, ironing, sweeping, and gardening to do, and he hasn't even done the laundry or gone to the market.
Lazy bum.

I was a ladybug for Halloween once upon a time. I wore a round sandwich board type thing and deelie-boppers (sp?). I loved it.

Luck Was a Lady!

Well, I finally got around to starting AND finishing an apron for Tie One On. The theme was "My Favorite Musical". It was close call, but Sweeney Todd seemed a little too...something, so I went with Guys and Dolls. I am tickled with how it came out--and the Angry Chicken used it as the opening picture. Now will I ever bring myself to wipe my food-covered hands on it? It's a little too precious right now...

Luck (x4)

The owner of the other four lucky items isn't quite as photogenic (he gets a lot of red-eye). But I'll be working on that.
=:x

In the beginning...

I thought that it would be wise to test this first.
